Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne today suspended the overseas travel approval given to Perpetual Treasuries Pvt. Ltd. (PTL) Chairman, Geoffrey Joseph Aloysius, following objections raised by the Attorney General.
Representing the AG’s Department, Senior State Counsel Lakmini Girihagama informed the Chief Magistrate that her department is to file an indictment at the Permanent High Court Trial-at-Bar against Geoffrey Aloysius and several others over the Central Bank Treasury bond scam during next two weeks and as such, permission for overseas travel must be revoked. Earlier, the court permitted Geoffrey Aloysius to travel to Singapore from July 1 to 11 in order to attend a wedding of a family member.
The next hearing was put off for June 28. (Nimanthi Ranasinghe)
