The report submitted by the five-member committee which probed several allegations linked to the Sri Lankan cricket team that toured Australia to take part at the T20 World Cup, has been forwarded to the Attorney General.

The report of the committee chaired by retired High Court Judge Kusala Sarojani Weerawardena was handed over to the Sports Minister last Tuesday.

The committee in its report has recommended a full-scale forensic audit on the expenditure incurred during the Sri Lankan team's tour of Australia.

In the report, the committee covers the incident involving Danushka Gunathilaka who was arrested on charges of sexual assault, Chamika Karunaratne’s disciplinary breach, the impact of the ‘Born again’ sect on the national cricket team, and matters linked to financial irregularities among other matters.

The Ministry Secretary has submitted the report to the Attorney General upon the advice of Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Roshan Ranasinghe to seek necessary recommendations for taking further action on this. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

The Fact-Finding Committee also has clearly pointed out wrong doings by SLC which are the reasons for deterioration of performance by SL cricketers. One reason is increase in the number of First Division teams to 26 when all other countries with much larger population have between 6-12. There are also other reasons such as not constructing large cricket grounds with fast wickets and not setting up of world class Cricket Academy etc. The Inquiry Committee has also highlighted lavish spending for Executive Committee members and other forms of corruption. These finding must be dealt by the Honourable Minister of Sports by dissolving SLC and by conducting fresh election for the Executive Committee under a new Constitution. If not, the performance of our cricketers will continue to deteriorate.

Sri Lanka's Cricket Greats. Where are you? Sri Lankan cricket has gone down to unbelievably low levels mainly because of wrong actions by SLC and You are completely silent. Your silence is deafening. Are you frightened to speak up because if you do speak you might miss future benefits that may be offered to you by SLC?
