SriLankan Airlines agreed to suspend the entire process of hiring 21 aircraft while admitting that the decision was made without knowing the gravity of the economic crisis in the country, SJB MP Dr. Harsha de Silva said today.

The MP tweeted that as a start all timelines would be extended by three months.

"Today, we summoned the SriLankan Airlines Board to the Parliamentary committee. They admitted they did not know the Sri Lanka's Economic Crisis was this grave when the decision was made and agreed to suspend the entire process. As a start, all timelines would be extended by three months.

It is inconceivable that SriLankan Airlines Board was that clueless about the SriLanka economy given stature of members and all top professionals. However said there was no Treasury Representative (thus didn’t know the real gravity), I am going to let this one go since they admitted the error," he tweeted.

Without Air Crafts they will not be able to capitalize on covid related economic recovery. The stupid guys in parliament will take the economy to the brink of collapse very soon. By delaying this transaction, Sri Lankan airline may incur loses too.

An Open message to Dr. Harsha De Silva, In one of the meetings with IMF, we read that some Indian Finance Ministry Officials getting involves in our discussion. Please let the entire population know why India should join our discussions with the IMF. Are we a colony of India? Have the Rajapaksas declared that Sri Lanka is a colony of India? Saman, As in any lending and loan restructure and bail out, all existing lenders should agree to the restructure or amend the repayment! Otherwise it is 'No GO' for IMF bailout??!! India is the 2nd largedt lender to SL and she has proactively declared so to assist in the programme!! "All Weather Friend - China" is still awaited though SL made a special appeal by President about a month ago??? If you don't want the assuarance, sure India will agree to retract the offer? They are not fools!!!
