Former UPFA MP Shantha Bandara was appointed as the new Chairman of the State Timber Corporation (STC) by President Maithripala Sirisena today.
The appointment was handed over to Mr. Bandara at the President's Residence in Colombo.
The President yesterday cancelled the appointment of Anuruddha Polgampola as the STC Chairman who was appointed to the post last Friday.
The post fell vacant following the arrest of former STC chairman P. Dissanayake by the Bribery Commission while accepting a bribe of Rs. 20 million.

Doesn't Sri Lanka have anyone else??Shantha Bandara lost his seat in Kurunegala at the 2015 election - the people didn't want him, but the decision makers of today, want him........ We are circulating the 'bottom of the barrel'. No new faces, just the same old muck.

How can the country develop when political appointments are made to Co-operation heads. This man does not know anything about the subject. I voted for Sirisena but he is not better than MR in political appointments. His bro is not doing anything to motivate SLT or Mobitel.

Exactly. Every Government Institutes gets henchmen of the politicians whom not qualified for the position. majority are just destroying the entire institutes and steal the money. At the end, government simply says, the institute is loss and not profitable. This is happening again and again and none of the leaders dont want to correct it. They all are satisfying their henchmen s rather than Interests of Public.

Why it has to be a politician??? My3, we handed you a country and you digged your own grave by embracing your party instead of developing the country

Mr President please go public in my name - "Gamaya" as you are also one of us, and announce to the world the qualifications of Mr Bandara to be Chairman of STC....

Cannot understand why this appointment has been politicised. Such appointments should be based purely on merit, qualifications, integrity, honesty and a proven track record to run a commercial business. What we now have does not appear to be good a good example.
ranmala Friday, 11 May 2018 10:58 PM
Stop all political appointments to head institutions Instead appoint competent people in the field if the country to go forward and specially not rejected politicos
jay Saturday, 12 May 2018 01:25 PM
Normal press announcements of appointments state the persons qualifications and experience. in Sri Lanka it only gives political affiliations. When we have a person unfit to lead the country we will also end up with the crooks in high places.
