Niroshan Dickwella and Asela Gunaratne hit crucial half centuries to guide Sri Lanka to their highest ever run chase as the hosts defeated Zimbabwe by four wickets on the final day of an intriguing one-off test on Tuesday.

Chasing 388 for a win, the hosts, who had lost their first one-day international series against Zimbabwe prior to the test, had been reduced to 203 for five before Dickwella and Gunaratne combined in a stand of 121 to anchor the chase.

Dickwella was out for 81 while Gunaratne, who was suffering from a hamstring injury, remained 80 not out. (Reuters)

A match played by SL with better disciplined batting. The stump decision of Dickwella earlier on in 68th over by third umpire would be the consolation for Zimbabwe to fall back on.

I watched the whole Test match.... to tell our SriLankans frankly, Zimbabwe missed so many catches, otherwise they would have easily won the Test. Anyway, its only a luck, not the performance. Guys should be trained properly before they face India.

Yes, Zimbabwe's fielding was sloppy and our boys won the Test match, but the credit should go to them for their bowling team, specially Creamer the captain.

If Dickwella or Asela was not there to score, for sure SL would have lost the match. Thanks guys.....

Good luck for the win but no happy for the performance

Good that Sri Lanka won the match. Otherwise it would have dealt a serious dent to the confidence in our players. But the balance of the side is seriously wrong.4 wicket keepers in the side (5 if Kusal Perera also comes in) limiting the part time bowling options Sri Lanka has. This needs to be addressed. We need to develop batsman who can contribute atleast 10 overs per test match if need be and bowlers who can contribute 20 to 30 runs batting at number 9, 10 and even 11.
