Sri Lanka ranked 92 behind countries like the US, India and Brazil among 100 safest countries for COVID-19, Forbes reported yesterday quoting a ranking issued by the think tank ‘Deep Knowledge Group’.

According to the ranking, the safest country for COVID-19 is now Germany and it is followed by New Zealand, South Korea, Switzerland, Japan, Australia, China, Austria, United Arab Emirates and Singapore.

The US ranked at 55, Brazil 66 and India at 80.

Forbes said the ranking isn’t what most people expect. “It’s not just about how many infections there are right now, or how many deaths COVID-19 has caused. Rather, it’s about a complex series of assessments on multiple medical, economic, and political factors. Added up, they increase or decrease a country’s score,” it said.

According to the report, the point is not so much whether a country has been hit hard by COVID-19 yet or not although that certainly matters but also whether there’s political will and social acceptance of quarantine and lockdown measures and whether the national and local governments cooperate well.

The Deep Knowledge Group first released a ranking of the safest countries in the world for COVID-19 back in June. Now the think tank has updated its data and methodology and re-issued a report on the safest countries and regions.

The think tank has looked at more than 140 parameters and considered more than 35,000 data points, both up significantly from June’s report.

    Truth Monday, 07 September 2020 04:15 PM

It's clear that this is a biased report. Many NGOs r biased to the western countries...the NGO who created this report also apparently biased to the western countries....sarcastic!!!

    Vidora Monday, 07 September 2020 04:18 PM

Better not be ranked with US, Brazil or India for COVID despite whatever ranking criteria Used... and most of us know where Sri Lanka is ranked for political and economic stability!!!

‘Deep Knowledge Group’. Doesn't show deeper knowledge of the current epidemic. What a biased report. This is how bogus NGO's try to manipulate world news through sweet sound of the Dollars$$$$$$$$$$$$

There are many Indians here in SL, doesn't want to go to INDIA

    Sokrates Monday, 07 September 2020 05:00 PM

The thing is, Forbes does not rely on the manipulated data released by the governments of individual countries, including Sri Lanka, but from data from objective sources.

Sri Lanka would be worse than India if Ranil and My3 lead the country.

When I see these comments, I feel sorry for all of them. Being a patriot is welcoming but try to think twice and balance. Lower number of infection is not a favor for ranking, but there are so many other factors. At least now try open your eyes and think broad, and find out what our government authorities are hiding from us. Please work on it, instead of blaming this think tank.

Change the name of the Index. This can't be for the safest countries for COVID-19.

    Lankan Monday, 07 September 2020 05:44 PM

The West always come up with ways to put the Western countries first :--))) Indians still don't understand the West, but allies of the West. Eventually, Indians will learn a good lesson.

This is typical idiot survey, give no credence's to it

Sarath Silva Tuesday, 08 September 2020 10:10 AM

'Deep knowledge Group' what a disgrace for that title we don't believe your assessment absolute rubbish. SL should be on top ten best control countries in the world not in the bottom ten for COVID-19 as you have listed on your report. Collect proper data re-assess and publish an updated report.

    Gayan R Tuesday, 08 September 2020 11:26 AM

    What a stupid ?

one law one country but president immune

    SOBEIT Friday, 11 September 2020 11:00 AM

I do agree with the comments by Lankan however keeping airports closed indefinitely does not solve the problem of workers trying to come home due to unemployment. This is only putting them at a further risk as they do not even have a place to stay. It is easy to keep the figures low if you are not letting anyone in so this is not a great achievement.
