Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara today filed a contempt of case against Treasury Secretary for alleged failure to comply with the Supreme Court order issued regarding the Local Government Elections.
The SJB General Secretary is seeking an order to charge Treasury Secretary Mahinda Siriwardana for the offence of Contempt of the Court under Article 105(3) of the Constitution.
On March 3, the Supreme Court issued an interim order preventing the Treasury Secretary and any other state official from withholding any funds allocated for the purpose of conducting Local Government Polls-2023. This order had been issued pursuant to a Fundamental Rights petition filed by SJB General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara.
This petition had been filed through Attorney-at-Law Sampath Wijewardena. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)

It is power at any cost. There is no point calling for a system change as the mindset of our politicians have not changed at all. There is a serious economic crisis in the country. People don't have food, medicine...But our politicians want an election that will not bring anything but an additional burden of maintaining 8000 more LG reps. All this just for power...more power. You must be insane to vote for such people. They are no better than Mahinda

President should be given a special Nobel prize for steering the country out of the black hole we are in by out smarting such leg pulling, selfish, power hungry set of politicians.

Well done and thanks for sticking with earlier assurances. Let their be no doubts in the minds of conniving rogues that they won't get away with murder.

@Nm; Power at any cost = Hanging on to power when there is not even a nominal mandate other than from 133.

@ Man - In 1974 Gerald Ford became the President of US. Richard Nixon appointed him as VP. In 1993. Just one man. Rest is history. Present PM of UK was elected by MPs.
