Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake who was sentenced to 04 years of Rigorous Imprisonment has been transferred to the Angunukolapelessa Prison today.

Prisons Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said that he was transferred after completing his quarantine period at the Correctional Center for Youthful Offenders in Pallansena.

The spokesman said that Ramanayake had been detained at the E Ward of the prison.

The Supreme Court sentenced MP Ranjan Ramanayake to 04 years of rigorous imprisonment for contempt of court on January 12.

A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court comprising justices Sisira Abrew, Vijith Malalgoda and Preethi Padman Surasena found the former state minister guilty of the charges beyond any reasonable doubt.

The Bench ruled that Ramanayake had committed contempt of court when he commented to the media that the majority of judges and lawyers in the country were corrupt on the 21st of August 2017.

If insulting the judiciary carries such a sentence imagine what the sentence ought to be for those who rob and plunder the country if they are ever sentenced ?

Michael, they need to be brought to book first. The mere mention of an inquiry, and they get themselves admitted to hospital with various ailments to prevent prosecution. Our country is a joke and the law makers are the biggest asses ever.

It is very sad state of affairs to note the country being dragged to hell like this. I wonder how it would be for the future generations to come. It’s a disgrace to see the things that are happening. No one has any faith in anything anymore. I wonder how is it that politicians don’t know that.
