Sri Lanka is currently experiencing mixed weather conditions with temperatures reaching up to 38 degrees Celsius in the North Central Province, while some areas in the Southern and Sabaragamuwa provinces are experiencing heavy rains.
The Department of Meteorology forecasted heavy showers exceeding 100 mm in the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces, but at the same time issued heat advisories for Gampaha, Colombo, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, and Anuradhapura.
The Met Department said the temperature in Polonnaruwa and Vavuniya exceeded 38 degrees while the temperature in Anurdhapura, Moneragala and Kunuenagala exceeded 36 degrees. Trincomalee was also reaching over than 35 degrees. In contrast, the rainfall exceeded 50 mm in Deniyaya and Kalawana with 43 mm of rain reported from Kalutara. A rainfall of 58 mm was reported from Ingiriya last afternoon. (Yohan Perera)
