The work stoppage by the Railway Trade Union Alliance (RTUA) is continuing in the absence of any signs of the matter being resolved, RTUA Co-Convener Lal Ariyaratne today said.
Mr. Ariyaratne said no discussion had been offered to them by any authority concerned and added that the strike would continue.
“We have launched a sudden strike, which started at 3.00 pm yesterday until further notice over several issues including salary anomalies,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Education Ministry confirmed no disruption had been made on students who were attending the GCE Advanced Level (AL) Examination due to the railway strike. (Kalathma Jayawardhane)

The top priority of the government should be to privatize the railway. This is long overdue. There is only small segment of the railway staff that work hard and they really work hard. The rest can be sent home or used for agriculture work.

Super keep it up... and some monkeys in Parliament make hilarious statements like Mannar can be made into another Dubai or very soon we will be like Singapore. Gnanasara was sentenced to 6 years, but we know already see the law being hoodwinked by admitting himself to hospital which is also paid by public.

Should not tolerate the high handed acts of these unholy trade unions. Stern and firm action should be dealt with, even if you have to expel them. It was only the other day they caused extensive damage to railway property due negligence. Who is going to pay for those heavy damages?

Railway strike is the only thing that railway workers are capable. Conducting of train service according to the schedule and maintaining machinery is secondary for them.
