Quarantine process under review

The quarantine process, including for travellers who have received the coronavirus vaccine is under review, Health Ministry sources said.

Sources said that the proposal had been made when the coronavirus task force met on Monday afternoon. A request was made to consider if the mandatory quarantine can be exempted for travellers who have received the Covid vaccine.

As a result, the Health Ministry’s technical committee on Covid-related matters is now studying the proposal and will make recommendations to the task force. Most Sri Lankans have received the first jab of the vaccine and are expected to receive the second dose in April-may. Health Ministry sources told Daily Mirror that a proposal was also made to reduce the quarantine period for Sri Lankans returning from overseas. According to sources, a suggestion was made to reduce the number of days in quarantine to 7 days, but some felt it was not practical. It was later suggested reducing the quarantine period to 10 days from the current 14 days.

Sources said that a proposal was also made to review the quarantine period for business travellers.

The proposal includes reconsidering the quarantine period for business travellers or reducing the quarantine period.

It was also proposed that local and foreign businessmen be allowed to travel in Sri Lanka under a travel bubble. (EASWARAN RUTNAM)

Once the majority of population is vaccinated you should reduce the quarantine period to just 3 days after 2 PCR tests. One before arrival and one on arrival. If both are negative then the person should be allowed to go out without further quarantine. You need to open and revive the economy. You cannot afford to close it for ever.

These Lankan quarantine measures are to enrich a selected few. It is so very obvious. You discriminate against your own countrymen while welcoming Foreigners into the country.

Sri lankans in quarantine center should further self quarantine for rwo weeks,but those who quarantine at hotels do not need to self quarantine.Any logic to it.

The country should be opened to Sri Lankans who have received the covid vaccines and who could provide confirmation and with a negative test prior to and on arrival at CMB. We have to return to sri lanka!

I feel that people who have got both doses of vaccine should be exempted from quarantine on arrival to Sri Lanka. Cyprus has already exempted those who have got both doses from the UK for any quarantine. This move has made a tremendous influx of tourists to Cyprus from the UK. Sri Lanka should also follow this and it will help our tourist industry very much
