The investigation into the Yala incident was still underway and that the assistance of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) would also be sought if required, Wildlife Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said today.

He told Parliament that investigation officials have been given full authority to implement law against those responsible.

Responding to SJB MP Mayantha Dissanayake, the Minister said those responsible would be brought before the law irrespective of their positions.

Parliamentarian Weerasumana Weerasinghe alleged that the drivers of the vehicles involved have been arrested instead of taking the real perpetrators behind the incident into custody. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

Confiscate all the vehicles that took part in the mischief. All caught on cameral. Impose heavy penalties to the drivers

    Ranjan Wednesday, 09 November 2022 06:11 AM

Else send these responsible Govt paid lady type cop servants of our hard earned money home for good.

The one who gives the orders to commit a crime is just as guilty as the one who carries it out. This is a fundamental rule of law. Whether the crime is a violation of wildlife laws, a traffic offense or a war crime is irrelevant. But it looks like money will take care of everything this time too. The useless offshoots, of influential politicians or businessmen, who barely have brains like prepubescent village idiots will finally get away with it.

Original report and video surveillance revealed many more vehicles than the 11 drivers now being part of the investigations?? What happened to other drivers - drivers drove balance vehicles??? Surely those vehicles had drivers to have participated!!!??? Funny indeed!! Were those REMOTE CONTROLLED TOYS!!! If the drivers could not be identified, then the legally registered owners of those balance vehicles should be charged, if they cannot provide the details of the nominated driver, committed dastardly nuisance in wildlife park – well-known tourist destination and USD income!!!?? If not, Why NOT???????????Are those too Rich or Uncle/nephew politics like Uncle Nephew Party!!!???

    EMILYJOACK Tuesday, 08 November 2022 03:24 PM

    umas Tuesday, 08 November 2022 03:28 PM

minister amaraweera you need to stand up and answer the questions like a man

    Mahila Wednesday, 09 November 2022 03:03 AM

Just answer one single question to assess your integrity as GOOD SL CITIZEN, TRUSTED, POLITICIAN AND MINISTER?? Is your nephew, would be charged as a culprit causing nuisance in a public place, considering it is a very important TOURIST ATTRACTION, EARNING VALAUBLE USD needed to pay for essential livelihood imports of SL!!?? IF NOT WHY NOT??? Please don't tell us the STORY, that he is excluded and wouldn't be charged because, that may reflect badly on your reputation or your family!!!??? On the CONTRARY, IF NEPHEW TOO IS CHARGED AND SERVES THE DUE PUNISHMENT, YOUR PUBLIC ESTEEM WOULD GROW!!!????

    Sanath Tuesday, 08 November 2022 03:33 PM

Most likely it will be eventually swept under the carpet, and all will tend to forget it as it happens usually.

    M.M.M.Izzeth Tuesday, 08 November 2022 03:53 PM

No need no one will be punished.save public money

    Andare Tuesday, 08 November 2022 04:01 PM

Hope Amaraweera will not do some jugglery to save his dear Nephew.

    sss Tuesday, 08 November 2022 04:21 PM

LoL These thugs and thieves have no fear of people because they know the police , army and the judiciary are protecting them

    Curious Tuesday, 08 November 2022 04:30 PM

The probe on this matter will be completed on the day the sun rises in the west.

    Kps Tuesday, 08 November 2022 05:50 PM

Mr. Minister, again this is a another political drama. Poor wild animals do not have a voice. First of all you should have resigned from your post to set an example to the nation with dignity.

How do you cover? Tuesday, 08 November 2022 08:36 PM

News we read these days are not very encouraging. Sri Lanka is like the dead corpus, which everybody is trying to cover with piece shroud too short. You cover head, feet are out in the open. You cover the head, the feet are protruding. How do you cover the dead body, with a semblance of decency? Ranil is doing it!

    cineha Tuesday, 08 November 2022 08:54 PM

If i remember correct only crimes of serious nature were entrusted to the CID that too at the discretion of the IGP. Now each and every donkey is walking in to the CID to make complains as per their fancies and even the CID is happy to entertain them, for reasons well known to them.

    Lal Tuesday, 08 November 2022 10:11 PM

TWO YEARS BACK FOUR YOUNG STUDENTS IMMEDIATELY CAUGHT AND REMANDED FOR DRIVING WITH HALF BODY OUT OF VEHICLE. THAT NORMAL CITIZENS KIDS. NOW THIS ONE POLITICIANS KIDS SO MANY WEEKS TO CATCH THEM WHAT A BLOODY LAW.

    Chris D S Tuesday, 08 November 2022 11:07 PM

I wonder how long this investigation is going to take. Is it so complicated.???????????????????????????????

    Nandasena R Wednesday, 09 November 2022 01:55 AM

Common Minister! it does not take this long to cook the books to get your kith and kin out of this mess. Can't you see this is the reason this country has gone to the dogs like you and your cohorts who have minimal education BUT PhD in thuggery.

    Sunil Wednesday, 09 November 2022 04:03 AM

These investigations will go on and on and ultimately no one will be punished. A typical situation in Sri Lanka. Only helpless schoolchildren suffer inhumane torture in the hands of principals and policemen.

    Hakuruwela Wednesday, 09 November 2022 05:21 AM

Amaraweera seems just mark time to cover up the incident,he quoted nephew just standing on the ground only, nothing he has done other than that.yes, that’s there on video, but it’s sufficient to understand he is an active member of the party and Amaraweera trying to highlight that to cover up his involvement, anyway in coming in elections certainly he will be dumped in trash yard for failed politicians and this time his opponents would not be Rajapakshas and tribalism won’t help this time

    Ben Wednesday, 09 November 2022 05:44 AM

Amaweera is a cunning deceptive person, during the corona period he as then minister of energy announced he is going to fill Trinco oil tanks, by then cheap oil, can he does, though not disclosed but country was broken, this one is just one example of this hypocrite

    Ranjan Wednesday, 09 November 2022 06:18 AM

Can the media release the list of vehicles and those responsible please. Also those tour guide trackers please. These guys too should be questioned.

Dr. K.T. Samarasinghe (Galle) Wednesday, 09 November 2022 08:31 AM

Amaraweera, you cannot deny that your son was involved in this incident as his Jeep reveals the truth man, we are not fools.

Bannis Mama Wednesday, 09 November 2022 08:33 AM

You are trying to cover the Elephant under your blanket, but it will never happen. Your son was leading the show the other day.
