The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is upset at Sri Lankan board expressing its desire to host the entire Asia Cup and has declined the latter's offer to play an ODI bilateral series in the island nation.
According to sources in the PCB, relations between the PCB and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have turned sour after its offer of hosting the entire Asia Cup instead of four games being held in Pakistan as per the 'Hybrid Model' proposed by Najam Sethi.
"An example of the increasingly strained relations between the two boards emerged after the PCB turned down a proposal by the Lankans to play a few One-Day International matches next month in Sri Lanka," PCB source stated.
Pakistan is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka in July to play two Tests of the next ICC World Test Championship cycle and apparently the SLC had suggested that Pakistan also play a few ODIs as they are optimistic their team will book a spot from the World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe and would need more exposure before the main event in October.
But a reliable source confirmed that the PCB after initially saying they would consider the proposal had turned it down now.
"It is a clear indication that the PCB is not happy with the Sri Lankan board stepping in to offer to host the Asia Cup in September when it is Pakistan's turn to host the regional event at home," the source said.
He said in fact PCB chairman Sethi is also not happy with the response of the Bangladesh and Afghanistan boards over the Asia Cup issue.
"Sethi expected Sri Lanka with whom Pakistan has long had friendly relations, Bangladesh and Afghanistan to convince the Indian Cricket Board and other Asian Cricket Council board members to go with the proposal put by Sethi and at least play three to four games in Pakistan of the Asia Cup before moving the tournament elsewhere."
"He is disappointed at the way things have panned out in recent days specially when some of these board heads went to India for the IPL final and met with the BCCI secretary Jay Shah," the source added.
The PCB has not responded to Indian media reports that the BCCI and Jay Shah have rejected Sethi’s hybrid model proposal and want the Asia Cup to be held in Sri Lanka.
But insiders say that the PCB is now preparing for some strong decisions regarding the Asia Cup and World Cup if the Indian board does not change its position on the Asia Cup.(PTI)

I don't blame PCB. India is a cricket bully. They want everything on their terms. Before giving prominence to cricket and spend millions, India should have programs to send street kids to schools and provide toilets to masses.

You don't have to blame anyone.. If you can blame India - the richest board and the highest revenue generator across the globe for being a bully, then Pakistan - the terror harbour, deserves to be isolated from the rest of the world.. After all, it was the sri Lankan players who had to go through the nightmare of terror attack in their bus, not you and not your friend - PCB.

Indians have bribed the Sri Lankans while they were in India to turn against Pakistan. How could our country fester such international discord, for the sake of revenue from cricket. PCB is well within their rights now to attack Sri Lanka Cricket, at any and every level, and vote against Sri Lanka in cricket matters as well as other matters because of this national insult against them. Some in Pakistan social media already saying it is an attack against Muslim country with the backing India. Why have we stooped that low in their eyes?

If India not touring to Pakistan for Asia Cup then Pakistan shouldn't go to India for World Cup!! Paks should have the courage to standup for bullying by BCCI. Someone should, coz Aussies happy with the money they're making and the Englishmen too satisfied. Other teams have to pickup the crumbs, yeah. That's not good for the game of cricket. And in the ICC world Cup tournaments there's too many teams that have diluted the quality of cricket in WC white ball tournaments.

It is a big disadvantage if the matches are not played as scheduled in Pakistan because the home team has the advantage of preparing pitches in favour of their bowling attack. If the Indians don't want to play the matches in Pakistan they should forfiet the game and lose some points. It is as simple as that.

Most of the people commenting here have no idea at all about the current state of Pakistan and what is going on in that country where its own civilians are scared to go out of their own house due to safety and security concerns. Its a nightmare and the outside world does not hear half of the story. Yet, the jockers sitting in Sri Lanka inside their homes in front of a computer comments some nonsense. Leave aside India, even Pakistan team is not safe in Pakistan. Stop blaming India for everything just because you cant see anything else that is happening around you. No one with the right mind will ever step in to Pakistan at the current state which is a suicide mission and that is the sad reality. If Pakistan doesn't want to go to India or Sri Lanka, that is their problem and not others.
