More than 40,000 students will be enrolled to all the 15 Universities in the country this year, University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Senior Prof. Sampath Amaratunga said.
Speaking to the media at the Information Centre today, he said it was a great victory that the UGC had received even during this pandemic situation.
Only 30,000 students were enrolled annually, but this year the number of students is increased by 10,569.
Accordingly, the increased number of students enrolled in certain faculties of the universities are as follows:
Medical 491, Engineering 565, Science 2,972, Technology 1,099, Commerce and Management 1,803, Arts 1,680 and Aesthetic subjects 318, the Prof. Amaratunga said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

Still 1900 for arts and other subjects. The arts are fine but why not limit them to language studies. So that they can be better teachers.

40,000 students but only facilities for 20,000. The already poor university education in an international comparison thus continues to decline. Many countries no longer recognize diplomas from Sri Lankan universities at all. Graduates only have one chance abroad with a foreign master's degree.
