The Opposition which did not build a single power plant in the country during their rule is now making various remarks on the power crisis, said State Minister Kanaka Herath.
He stated this while participating in the ceremony to launch the renovation activities of the 3.2 kilometre long road from Dehiowita to Amithirigala, Pallekanugala under the ‘Kegallath Hadamu’ policy statement.
This road will be carpeted at a cost of Rs.20 million in line with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’ election manifesto.
The State Minister said the Opposition had opposed to every power plant project proposed to be implemented by the 2005-2015 government. This includes the Sampur coal power plant and other wind power plants in the North. He also said the present government is implementing the LNG, wind power and other renewable energy projects with the intention of providing solutions to the future power crisis.
Political representatives of the Kegalle District and the officials of the Road Development Authority participated on this occasion.

The present problem is due to lack of foreign exchange to get down fuel and the overuse of the hydropower resource. Even if we had build new power plants, this problem will be the same. Is the lack of LPG, milk powder, cement etc due to power stations?

LNG is not a good option. it will take SL deeper into more debt. But ofcourse it will bring more commission to politicians. We know this govt is looking for ways to justify Yugandanavi contract

Sampur was a farce. Was it the then government who jeopardize the solar projects? And still doing the same?

Last government encouraged solar power projects by giving tax concessions. Rajapaksha clan opposed the Norrichoalai construction, before 94 and now the person who did well unlike others, rejected the Sampur project for a green environment and against pollution. So, now no power like paddy and vegetables. Broadland project started by the last government. Another lie of them.
