It has been reported that a low-pressure area in the southeast Bay of Bengal, naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into the deep and shallow sea areas until November 21, the Metrology Department said.
Accordingly, the naval and fishing communities were advised not to venture into the sea areas off the coast extending from Kankesanturai to Batticaloa via Trincomalee and the Bay of Bengal.
The low-pressure area in the southeast Bay of Bengal is very likely to intensify into a depression during the next 48 hours, and it is likely to move west-northwestward and move closer to the northern coast of Sri Lanka towards the Tamil Nadu area by tomorrow (20) and the day after (21).
Therefore, there could be pretty heavy showers in the Eastern Province. Heavy downpour of above 50mm can be expected at some places. Also there could be showers in the northern and north-central provinces.
A misty condition can be expected to blanket the Sabaragamuwa, Uva, and Central provinces during the morning, the department said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
