The second phase of the Central Expressway (E-04) from Mirigama to Kurunegala (Athugalpura entrance) will be opened to the public tomorrow (15) under the patronage of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, Highways Minister Johnston Fernando said.
He said the distance of the second phase of the E-04 from Mirigama to Kurunegala is 40.91 km. The expressway was constructed to minimize environmental and social impacts, bypassing urban areas mainly through vacant land, he said.
The expressway was built with four lanes, and the section from Mirigama to Kurunegala has been identified as the most beautiful expressway section in Sri Lanka.
This section of the road has been constructed by local contractors with local funds. Five exchange centers with payment counters at Mirigama, Nakalagamuwa, Dambokka, Kurunegala, and Yaggapitiya have been set up.
This construction cost Rs 149 billion will be opened for public tomorrow. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

These are projects where maximum commissions could be obtained. It will be easy to go begging on these roads. How come our governments don't understand the priorities of the day. Building high ways is not going to take away the hunger the people are facing today.

I hear they are going to charge a toll. Minister Johnston mentioned that there won't be a toll until the kadawatha mirigama was done.
