While admitting that there was a shortage of 111 drugs as of yesterday (30), Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that the Government has paid special attention to the matter and actions are underway to address the shortage.
He told Daily Mirror that certain medical experts who make allegations about drug shortages are going by past statistics which does not depict the actual picture.
“There was a shortage of 200 items three months ago, which have now come down to 112. It will further decrease to 70 within the next two weeks,” the Minister emphasized.
When asked whether there are sufficient funds to purchase drugs, Rambukwella said “It is undeniable that Sri Lanka has been facing its worst economic downfall since last year. Now, we are on the mend. In this context, there have been minor issues with releasing funds. However, we are now getting adequate funds from the Treasury needed to purchase medicines and other essentials,” (Sheain Fernandopulle)

You always Admit Shortage of drugs, You better admit to general hospital then only you will know the pain of the citizens are suffering at hospitals. Best thing is you better resign from your position immediately and give some one who can do the job properly, the whole world is donating money for your government, IMF ADB and etc... but still shortage of drugs,

If the government had taken special note of this matter why does the acute drug shortage still exist. It is not only drugs. The cardio-thoracic unit of the General Hospital at Kandy, just to cite one example, is dying a natural death due to the horrific negligence of the authorities. Some of the heart patients there will die even before their maladies are diagnosed. The government can take special note when this happens.
Doctors only know to prescribe drugs made by pharmaceutical companies. Thursday, 01 June 2023 09:57 AM
What doctors do is to prescribe drugs and they have no clues as what else to do. All drugs have side effects and actually these side effects create other problems and weaken the human body. I can safely say at least 50% of the drugs the minister talking about are not needed , instead encourage people to eat nutritional food and remain active .

Here you can see again that Ranil's grand revival of the economy is a big fake. He rebalances the shortcomings so cleverly that they remain invisible to most people. For example, he uses the foreign exchange needed for medicines and medical equipment to buy fuel. If queues at the petrol sheds are seen will lead to riots. But hardly can see people dying at home or in hospitals from lack of medicine. LPG is imported, again to avoid visible queues, but electricity costs are increased. Now even unimportant religious statements are hyped up by the government to distract from the economic inadequacies. Unbelievable how Ranil, his corrupt government and the criminal parliamentarians cling to power even if it costs lives. It's just sad that this is supported by the media whether unconsciously or intentionally.

Dear Minister, Why not educate the population in preventative health care rather than encouraging the import of many unnecessary pharma products? Time to make a sea change in healthcare to help keep a positive balance of payments than burden the next generation with the same old issues of debt due to selfish comis kareyas!

we don't western foreign mostly Christian researched, developed and marketed medicines and drugs to cure illnesses. All we need is to take a tray laden with money and other goodies to the monk in our nearest temple and with the necessary chants illnesses will be cured.

Minister, If you cannot place the orders in time please hand over the Ministry to a person capable. Please don't import substandard drugs that will affect our health. You did it recently
