Former Minister Ravi Karunanayake said today in Parliament that all media personnel should declare their assets and liabilities.

He said this while making a statement referring to a media report that most MPs had not declared their assets and liabilities.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said he had no authority to demand assets and liabilities of media personnel.

Meanwhile, JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake proposed that it could be done by the Media Ministry. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

MPs will have many many pages to fill up in their declaration - not the media ones. - Do not try cheep tricks to creep into the limelight (after your PRIDEfull behaviour) by such utterences. At least no media person (to my knowledge is a monarch like you ) stays at your apartment complex or was financed by others to stay there ( leave aside a pent house)

Apart from all the politicians, all the people who are in professions where corruption could do lot of damage to the country should declare there assets. All the top level government servants (including Police, Judiciary, Health and Education), and officials of all pressure groups engaged in political and politically related activities (including media people) should come under this net.

You were exposed by the media and now you want to get at them. While you are still polluting the Parliament, please ask the members of that house, as well as all public servants - from grama sevakas to MPs and Ministers - to declare their true assets. Mandatory for doctors and lawyers too, everything including fees collected without receipts.

    Thilina Saturday, 09 September 2017 01:39 PM
