Making the first such arrest after establishing of a new unit to trace the culprits who upload child pornographic videos and photographs to the internet or social media, a 25-year old man who had uploaded more than 500 videos and photographs was arrested, police said.
Police Spokesman SDIG Ajith Rohana said the suspect, a resident of Badalkumbura had collected a number of videos and photographs through the Facebook creating fake accounts.
The suspect was remanded after produced before the Colombo Magistrate's Court.
SDIG Rohana said the new unit was established at the Children and Women Bureau in Colombo in June this year in order to monitor the pornographic video clips and photos connected to children.
The new unit is equipped with the technology that can identify the people, their IP addresses and telephone numbers within moments after once they upload any porn material of children to the internet or social media platforms such as Facebook, Whatsapp, Viber, Youtube or Imo through any devices," he said
He said the police are vigilantly patrolling the cyberspace to monitor pornography related incidents.
The spokesman said the police also identified at least 10 others who have involved in such nefarious crime.
He said operations are underway to arrest those suspects as well.(DSB)

Just how they do street dramas to educate people, government should hire qualified artists to develop you tube videos to educate the public on the internet. It should particularly address the young ones and the parents.
