Minister of Foreign Employment and Labour Manusha Nanayakkara today came out with some shocking revelations in the foreign employment sector where MPs and social media have been paid to highlight issues faced by Sri Lankan expatriate workers.
“We have received information that some MPs have received payments for raising issues about Sri Lanka expatriate workers. We also have information that social media groups have also been paid to expose the issues faced by Sri Lankan expatriates on their portals,” the Minister said.
“It has also been disclosed that an unlawful insurance scheme has been introduced by certain Sri Lankan diplomats together with politicians. A sum of US$30 has been charged from some Sri Lankan expatriate workers under this scheme, but they have not been given any benefit in return,” he added.
“We did have issues pertaining to Sri Lankan expatriate workers, but we have managed to control them. We also have decided not to send in Sri Lankans for unskilled jobs if the respective countries do not agree to our terms and conditions,” the Minister also said.(Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)

Next blame will be on "NGOs", Sri Lankan popular practice of politicians. 1st they have to improve the local economic standard so that the people will be happy to stay in the country. The country should not depend on foreign exchange sent by overseas employees and there is nothing the government gives them in return.

Only in Sri Lanka, you have to bribe government officials, MPs and Ministers to do their duties. In other countries bribery is to deviate from a duty.

What happened to insurance money collected? Friday, 09 June 2023 05:43 PM
What happened to the Insurance scheme of the Foreign employment Bureau? Some agents collected money at the passage to the airport from passengers, but they could not write names properly, even after looking at the Passport! What happened to those monies?

When this bloke was a member of the opposition, he attacked the govt for trivial issues. Now that he has crossed over to enjoy the benefits of a Minister, he attacks the MPs n media institutions of highlighting the difficulties faced by our mothers n sisters who are subject to hard labour. He is blind to such grievances n should be happy that such matters are being highlighted sothat he can take corrective action. Good example us for him to study what terms n conditions the Philippine govt imposes on the prospective employers for their domestic workers and follow suit sothat our women don't face hardships at the hands of their sponsors.

Citizen 2023, you have said it quite rightly. However Manusha may not be able to read and understand unless someone translate it.
