Claiming that there is no reason for panic or alarm over the spread of Listeria in the Sri Pada area, Registrar in Community Medicine of the National Institute of Health Sciences, Dr. Naveen Soyza said all precautions have been taken by authorities in this regard.
"The necessary studies are being carried out, focused on the Sri Pada area, where the disease has been reported," he said.
“Although there have been reports circulating on social media about several deaths, only one death has been confirmed as caused by Listeria,” he said and added that two other suspected deaths have been reported, however, they have not been confirmed to have been caused by the disease as of now.
