Health Services Director General Dr. Asela Gunawardene who expressed concern over the lack of public cooperation to bring the pandemic under control, said it was left to the people to decide whether they would hold wedding receptions, parties, public functions and enjoy as in the past, or reduce merry making events to the barest minimum to pave way for the reopening of schools and universities.

Addressing a ceremony to handover two PCR machines to the Kalutara Health Institute, he said the spread of the disease had prevented the reopening of schools in the Western Province as yet.

He pointed out that the clusters of patients had originated from wedding receptions, parties and funerals where the participants were at the risk of contracting the disease.

Dr. Gunawardene, requested the public to strictly adhere to the health guidelines without blaming the health authorities for the spread of the disease.

“The Health sector plan is to bring the second wave of the pandemic without locking down the country.’’(BANDU THAMBAITA)

You have failed. Now put the blame on the pubic. When all goes well, I did it.

Make those wedding reception and funeral gatherings illegal. Set a number of people allowed in those gatherings at a time. If people are not obeying then hand them financial penalties. No choice.

What about political gatherings for foundation laying, opening ceremonies. They should set the example.

There is no sense in your policy: allowed to gather on weddings and funerals, but not allowed to bury our loved ones for no good reason. People don't trust health service anymore.

Don't put the blame on general public when you do do not have a backbone to take decisions. You are always giving into political pressure for your survival. Shame on you.

Your concern is the most of the peoples concern too. Govt must find a way to control these functions to protect us

The new strain came from a cricketer or tourist, blame the people who thought international cricket matches during a deadly pandemic was essential and the tourism sector for not enforcing health guidelines with tourists

    Mueez Friday, 19 February 2021 01:13 PM

Your strategies and systems have failed drastically. Treat this as a pandemic. This is not a money making business or a tool to punish and revenge minorities, not a stage to test myths. Sickening and frustrating with you guys.
