A labourer aged 71 was killed in a 14-storey construction site in Kollupitiya when an iron component fell on his head.
The victim was in the ground floor when the iron component fell on his head from an upper floor of the construction site.
He was identified as Piyadasa Suraweera, a resident of Moragahahena, police said.
He was rushed to the National Hospital where he succumbed to his head injuries.

Perhaps an accident but, what benefits will his heirs get for somebody's negligence? Only the burial?

Wasn't he wearing a helmet? The owner and the site engineer is criminally liable.

I see too often construction workers take no steps to make themselves safe, working without proper shoes, helmets, and doing things that are so very dangerous at height.I really do not understand why, unless it is a Sri Lankan thing to think you can take risks forever, and somehow beat statistics?
