While denying media reports that a Buddhist monk named Ven. Wattappola Rahula Thera was appointed as a consultant to the road development project, Highways and Higher Education Minister Lakshman Kiriella told Parliament yesterday he was even ready to offer five such posts to the JVP which raised the matter.
JVP MP Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa made this allegation during question time of the House the other day.
In response, the Minister said wide media publicity had been given to it, but it was a total falsehood.
"We have not made any such appointment. If you want, we will offer you five slots," he said.
He also denied the allegation that two persons from the same family had been given such appointments on political grounds. (Kelum Bandara and Yohan Perera)

Isn't it taking and giving bribes is an offence in panel code Mr. Minister? You are a solicitor/lawyer?

Disgraceful for offering 5 posts like a bribe to silent JVP. Minister must divulge his list for the public to believe.

They wouldn't want it. Not that they don't like your offer less but they like their freedom more!!!

This is not the change we voted for on January 8th. Ministers cannot dole out our money to their catchers. It was pathetic to see Kiriella trying to justify the appointments on the basis of electoral support. In a western country such an admission is unthinkable and will result in the fellow being kicked out of the cabinet. In fact the Minister, Secretary and the DG-RDA all should be taken before the courts for abusing public funds.

These people think they are giving these jobs to their henchmen as Santhosam for helping them at elections. This entire system should stop. People should be educated and found jobs according to their qualifications without going behind these good for nothing politicians

In Sri Lanka bribe works in different forms without the word "bribe" being mentioned.

Helloooo!! I have been a UNP supporter since I was old enough to vote. I have lost with you'll and won with you'll, but I did it for the Party NOT FOR HANDOUTS. It's depressing to note that you are openly stating that UNP is no better than the former regimes :(
