A group of inmates in the Old Bogambara Prison, who started a protest on the roof of the prison this morning (17), called off the protest a short while ago.
Prisons Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said the inmates had staged this protest demanding PCR tests.
He said the remanded prisoners are being quarantined at the Old Bogambara Prisons before they would be transferred to the Bogambara Prison.
However, at east 20 inmates who were brought to this prison on May 12 demanded that they should be subject to PCR tests.
The spokesman said according to the procedure, the PCR tests normally being done 10 days after they are brought to the prison.
Hence, the PCR tests would be performed on them on May 22.
