Imported rice to be sold at supermarket chains at Sathosa price

Steps would be taken to release a stock of imported rice which is sold only at Lanka Sathosa to all supermarket chains within the next week, Trade Minister Shehan Semasinghe said.

He tweeted that the maximum retail price of 1 Kg of Nadu rice is Rs 145.00 and 1 Kg of Samba rice is Rs 175.00.

He also said a customer can purchase a maximum of 5 kg at a time.

22 million Lankans knew this kabanika thing will lead to a disaster. Rice import would continue for the foreseeable future as cost of local farmers will be high due to 40,000 price for fertilizer.
