The Health Ministry today issued a new set of guidelines to be followed by the public from October 16 to 31.
According to the new guidelines, interprovincial travel restrictions are to continue until October 21 with exemptions for essential activities while all non-essential travel is not permitted from 11 pm- 4 am daily.
All public gatherings and parties are also not allowed until further notice.
Public and shared transport should be non-air-conditioned and windows should be opened while only seated passengers are allowed in public transport.
When it comes to holding weddings, weddings can be held with a maximum of 25% of the usual capacity, not exceeding 50 persons while 75 persons are allowed when the function is held outside.
Funerals should be held within 24hrs of releasing the dead body with 20 attendees.
Meanwhile, preschools are allowed with 50 per cent of capacity while tuition classes are not allowed. Universities will commence functions as per guidelines.
No collective activities or gatherings are allowed at religious places while relevant guidelines will be issued on special occasions accordingly.
Cinemas and theatres will be allowed to operate from October 21 with 25 per cent of the seating capacity while gyms are also permitted to operate with a maximum of 30% of the capacity, not exceeding 10 persons. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
