There is a disturbing trend of gun-running being carried out together with drug trafficking, while arms that were used during the conflict in the North have come into the South after the end of the conflict, Minister of National Security Tilan Alles revealed in Parliament today.
Responding to an oral question raised by MP Sanjeewa Edirimanne in the House, Minister Alles said the STF has recovered 1,163 unauthorized weapons during the last three years.
“There have been many instances where the police have recovered weapons such as pistols and revolvers together with consignments of drugs. The latest incident was the recovery of ten weapons together with 192 kgs of heroin by the Bandaragama police,” the Minister said. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)

What to do for this ? If you can jail for stealing a cocacut or a mango from next door why not come up with some strict laws to holding illegal weapons .. why not publish them ? Do you want to give free license as in USA to have guns ? We have a lot of shooting each months .. 1) bring some strict guns law 2) have some mechanisms to check weapons daily . 3) Register all weapons Make it a criminal offence to have it without permission
