As the government increased the fuel quota for three wheelers, they should take action to implement the rule to display the taxi fare while making it easy to regulate the service, the All-Island Three-Wheeler Drivers’ Union (AITWDU) said.
AITWDU President Lalith Dharmasekera told the Daily Mirror that passenger three-wheeler drivers are satisfied with the recent fuel quota increase.
"The three-wheeler driver should clearly display the rates he uses to charge from the passengers. This is the time to make such rule to make taxi service a reality. "They should also comply with the rules for displaying the taxi logo," he said.
In addition to that, the government should take measures to register the three-wheeler drivers who are engaged in serving passengers.
A hired three-wheeler driver runs a maximum of 150 km per day consuming 10 litres of gasoline.
However, on the day when the government will be able to provide 30 litres of petrol, the Three-Wheeler Drivers’ Union will consider reducing taxi fares in comparison to the petrol price at that time, Dharmasekera said. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

15 km/L? My 1.8L 4door sedan car weighing 1.5tons does 12km/L with AC and being automatic. Nice soppy story to get back to your old business of selling petrol at Blackman rates and getting the entire nation to suffer!

The law should make it mandatory that every tuck tuck in every area should run with a meter as now many run without meters and ask for colossal fares from the customer. Just last week I got into one tuck tuck and his starting fare was Rs. 120 while another started with Rs.100.

3wheelers drivers are the worst crooks and you think they don't know how to tamper the meter?? Come up with a meter that cannot be tampered by them.

None of the three wheelers positioned at the turn into Averiwatte road from the Negombo Colombo main road do not have meters. Ten feet from the stand is traffic police post. What is the point of having laws if these cannot be enforced?

Government should consider to reduce the fuel quota from 10 liters to 3 liters. Three wheeler drivers are acting UNFAIR in their attitudes.
