The presidential candidate of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Gotabaya Rajapaksa, in his electoral address in Wellawaya, pledged to give a relief package for poverty-stricken people.
He said he would work out a special programme to look after the marginalised segments of society and lift them out of poverty.
“I know there are daily wage earners who find it difficult to make ends meet. There are those stricken by poverty. We have to look after them. Our focus is to empower them economically and lift them out of poverty. In the meantime, we have to take care of them,” he said.
Also, he said he would address the housing needs of people including those working in urban areas.
He said he would make arrangements with the construction companies to give apartments at concessionary prices for those working in the urban areas.
