Some ministry subjects which fell vacant with the exit of six ministers who left the government after voting in favour of the No-confidence motion against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe were temporary handed over to four existing ministers by President Maithripala Sirisena today.
Minister of Special Assignments Dr Sarath Amunugama was sworn in as the Acting Minister of Skills Development as well as Minister of Science and Technology Development in addition to his present Portfolio of Special Assignments. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya was sworn in as Acting Minister of Disaster Management in addition to the subject of Renewable Energy and Petroleum Resources.
Minister Fazier Mustapha was sworn in as the Acting Minister of Sports in addition to his Portfolio of Local Government and Provincial Councils while Malik Samarawickrama was sworn in as the Acting Minister of Social Empowerment and Welfare and Minister of Labour Relations in addition to his Portfolio of Development Strategies and International Trade.
Subject of Skills Development was previously held by Chandima Weerakody, Disaster Management was held by Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, Sports by Dayasiri Jayasekera. S. B Dissanayake held the subject of Social Empowerment, Labour Relations was held by W. D. J. Seneviratne while Susil Premajyantha held the subject of Science and Technology Development.
All six of these ministers resigned from their posts as they decided to sit in the Opposition as a separate group after they voted in favour of the No-faith motion against the Premier.
Meanwhile, President Maithripala Sirisena had informed the Ministers that a full reshuffle of the Cabinet would be done after the National New year.

Since 2015 many were ACTORS Hence making them ACTIVE ministers instead of ACTING ministers is the need of the hour as time is running out.

At last!!! Only hope the 16 who resigned don’t hang onto all the perks, such as houses, vehicles, security personnel etc.etc. This is what happens normally, and ultimately the people are the loosers, and they have the last laugh...

I wonder whether they will say that the President asked them to continue having all the perks, whether or not the President said such a thing.

This should be the natural outcome of losing the portfolio. President of Iran and UK Prime Minister Camaroon took to Public transport when they lost the post.

This is more 'scientific' than wholes of NASA Roscosmos together. Their next space program will be to send a 'minister' to the moon.

What has Malik got to do with Kandiyan Heritage? Oh! the boys .

Please get those vehicles back. Else they will end up like the permits.

Please get the ministries back and give them to some new more capable set of people, even if they are of the UNP. Don't we have better people in the Parliament? This is not a time to think about the party, but to look after the country. If not, the future generations will say that our current President let go of the best opportunity we had in a generation to develop the country and set it in the correct path.

Mr.President, why not you select some good prefects from Madya Maha Vidyalaya around the country and appoint them as Ministers and deputies for a trial and see how they perform.I am sure they will perform better especially when they are not provided with all these perks at the beginning.Give them C-90 bikes instead Land Cruisers.

The worst out of the lot is Malik S. The President and PM are off their minds they should retire

All senseless ministries that were only created to distribute ministerial posts. For example: Disaster Management, Local Government, Provincial Councils and Sport belong to the Ministry of the Interior. Skills Development, Science and Technology are part of the Ministry of Education. Social Empowerment and Labor Relation belong to the Ministry of Labor. A Minister for Special Assignments is a complete nonsense.

100% correct, ministries created to pander to politicians. In 1977 we had 31 ministers now well over 100. Unwanted /unwarranted expenses

Appointing Mr. Fazier is the best decision done by Yahapalana government for sports in Sri Lanka. The football and rugby skills he has shown during his political career can be used to uplift all sports in Sri Lanka. His ability adopt and adjust to different political situation can help to develop the intellect of our sportsman. He will be an inspiration to entire sporting world. May god bless him!
