A total number of 73 police officers have been found to have failed in their duty to prevent the violence on May 9 2022, the Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles told Parliament today.

Responding to an oral question raised by MP Jagath Kumara Sumithrarachchi in the House, the Minister said some 35 OICs have been transferred so that inquiries carried out against them will not be affected.

As per the information revealed by the Minister, inquiries are being carried out against 62 sub-inspectors and 6 inspectors who have been identified to have failed in their duty.

In response to a question raised by MP Sumithrarachchi on inquiries carried out on those who staged attacks on MPs and other politicians on May 9 last year, the Minster said separate investigations are carried out against them. “We have also found out that some of the attackers have been found to have committed other offences such as running brothels and separate investigations are carried out on those,” he said. In 1983 when when the Northern Tamils living in the South were murdered and their houses were burnt down by the BLOOD THIRSTY SINHALESE MOBS, the Police stood silent and turned a blind eye for 72 hours, HAS ANY POLICEMEN BEEN FOUND GUILTY OF DERELICTION OF DUTY ? NONE. The two tier justice system is not going bring the Tamils and Sinhalese together, that is for certain.

Dismiss the officers found negligent in their duties. However the minister do not have a back bone to stand firm. Wait and see.

Is Deshabandu Tennakoon among this 73 who have been found guilty and is he being investigated too? Why has he not been transferred so that an impartial investigation can take place. The buck should stop with him cos the other police officers were only following his instructions.

Minister escaped charges for carrying money to LTTE with blessings of Raja Family. Even the later governments ignored action. Likewise SDIG Deshabandu Tennekone too appear to have escaped for dereliction of duty on 9 May 2022

What is the action you are going to take then president and the cabinet who brought the country economically down. The government officials who carried out all malpractices with the ministers. People uprise can't be stoped. Police officers cannot be punished.

    Kps Saturday, 10 June 2023 08:15 PM

Sad to note no action had been taken with the main culprit who is totally responsible for this May 9th issue. All these inquiries and mishaps would have stopped by an one officer non other than Senior DIG Deshabandu Thennakoon.

    Buddhist Saturday, 10 June 2023 11:27 PM

Minister answer me first, you have charged those who attacked MPs' residences, what about the thugs led by Rajapaksas, SLPP MPs guided by Deshabandu not arrested or taken before the courts? Show the argalakaru go to UN?
