President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has advised health authorities to explore possibilities of western and indigenous medicinal remedies and treatment options for new coronavirus patients after consulting experts in the field.

The President's Office said these instructions were given by the President during a special meeting held with Health, Foreign Relations, Tourism and Higher Education Ministers at the Presidential Secretariat last evening.

It said the health condition of the first and only patient found positive for new coronavirus in the country was improving and the doctors have been able to prevent the spread of the virus.

The President has commended people in all sectors who had supported with utmost commitment to prevent the spread of the virus. He advised that these measures be continued to keep the people safe.

President Rajapaksa also reviewed the action taken by the experts committee to prevent the spread of new coronavirus and to bring back the Sri Lankan students from China.

He instructed to provide all facilities needed for the students who will be returning home from Wuhan and take good care of them.

He also instructed to expand the facilities at hospitals for diagnosis of the virus infections. “We need to face this situation while safeguarding our tourism industry as well,” he said.

Ministers Chamal Rajapaksa, Dinesh Gunawardena, Bandula Gunawardena, Arundika Fernando and Pavithra Wanniarachchi and other officials were present at the discussion. (Lahiru Pothmulla)
