The Finance Ministry announced today that the excise duty on all varieties of liquor, wine and beer will be increased by 20% as of midnight today.
State Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said the duty on cigarettes has been increased by 20% from January 1.

It is rather ironic that, at the same time, Dubai has reduced duty and tax on alcohol to ZERO, while Sri Lanka is going in the opposite direction.

Dubai is a different business model , can not compare Dubai with sri lanka. This is a good move. However SL custom has to be stronger than now. at least first 6 month income should used to buy state of art technology and train them to avoid smuggling.

The only smart way Politicians knows to increase government revenue by periodically increasing the price of alcohol,wine, beer and cigarettes!! Try to come up with atleast other ways of increasing revenue for the government!!
