It was revealed that no steps have been taken by Public Service Commission (PSC) as directed by Supreme Court to pay the salary of former CID sub inspector Sugath Mendis who was arrested and interdicted along with former CID Director Shani Abeysekera.

On May 18, the supreme court ordered that former CID sub inspector Sugath Mendis be paid his full salary and entitlements with effect from 23/03/2022.

Filing a motion before Supreme Court, Sugath Mendis stated that respondents including the PSC have actet in contemptuous disregarding the interim order issued by Supreme Court.

Filing a motion through Attorney-at-law Lilanthi de Silva, the petitioner moved Court to accept his written submissions as required to be filed prior to the hearing of the petition.

This petition is to be taken up for argument on 21st of September.

Sub-inspector Mendis was arrested and remanded for 11 months in connection with allegations that his superior officer SSP Shani Abeysekara had planted weapons in certain premises to frame former DIG Vaas-Gunawardena who was convicted along with his son and four others by a trial-at-bar for murdering millionaire businessman Mohomed Shyam.

Mendis was granted bail along with SSP Shani Abeysekara by the Appeal Court which noted several contradictory positions in complaints made against Mendis that evidently contained fabrications and false versions.

Mendis had complained that he was taken in and remanded for refusing to falsely allege that SSP Abeysekara had planted weapons to frame Vaas-Gunawardena and others.

Mendis' petition complained to the supreme court, that he was denied due process and has been wrongfully interdicted and denied his salary and entitlements inflicting hardship to him and his family.

These acts of harassment violate his fundamental rights, he complained. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)

This is nothing but a politics of revenge..The CID department must be free of all political influence . It is an impartial public service department..it can not work as politicians want to suite their interest..one by one these politicians have spoiled the national institute like CID..once judiciary and CID have been a neutral institute...It has been providing the public service without any fear of political influence ..It has the power and authority to arrest even politicians when they do harm to the national interest .. Unfortunately! MR and co family destroyed it's independence and freedom to function freely without any political influence . Politicians have put their noses in everything in Sri Lanka and officials have to work in fear and that is the country is like this in a mess now .

A few good men and women in many fields did not survive the vicious "System". Sadly even corrupt lawyers ànd judicial officers have helped the "system" to prevail and the good or righteous to suffer. Hulftdorf is the place where a citizens struggle or genuine Aragalaya must start the next wave. Look at this case imagine the number of officials who are complicit in this injustice! Rajapakses cabraals Mahendrans PBJs either found not guilty and released or case dismissed due to lack of evidence or technicality. or worse no cases filed even though thousands of lawyers protest on the streets. All bull media show only.

Mendis, Shani, DIG Nalaka are a few names that come to my mind who were remanded on alleged criminal charges but to date no prosecutions. This alone is good for the court to exonerate them and release from all the cases
