The level one early warning on landslides issued by the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) for the Kalutara district will continue for another 24 hours, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said.
The early warning on landslides was issued to Palindanuwara and Bulathsinhala Divisional Secretariats in the Kalutara district.
The DMC said heavy showers above 75 mm are likely in the Sabaragamuwa Province and in the Galle, Matara and Kalutara districts.
Strong winds upto 45 kmph can be expected in the island. Wind speeds on may increase up to 60 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Trincomalee via Mannar and Kankesanturai (KKS) and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
Therefore, the public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
