A rich nation's priority will be a lesser priority for a poor nation. Never the less over a period of 15 years we should get all important aspects of nation building planned and lined up for execution. Values ethics attitudes behaviors critical thinking analytical thinking respect gratitude accountability responsibility many many qualitative factors for human development must come into the kindergarten to university education system. if we redesign our school programmes now to build a more honest meritocracy type nation in 15 years we will see good results.

EU should ensure weapons of mass destruction like depriving business opportunities are not used to tame a reasonably peaceful and democratic country like Sri lanka whose murder rate per 100,000 citizens us 3.5 as compared to 7 in USA as per world bank statistics. Invest in structural reforms police department automation etc by giving grants or soft loans to Sri Lanka. This is what a truly caring EU can offer Sri Lankas happy smiling friendly people.

My suggestion is not to compare the situation in Sri Lanka to the nazi regime during the worldwar. Or compare Gotabaja with Hitler, your government with Gestapo etc. Because this is still a very delicate subject here. Married to a Sri Lankan woman I follow the news with great interest. But I can assure you this is a totally different situation as the Shoah. And to most European people bringing up the nazi's all the time is a cheap way of trying to score. I am sure the British DM will not publish these comments.

Now Ponil has to work on the basic human rights issues which is now at a low level. I feel the first casualty will be the GSP . IMF is still far far away. No sensible organization gives money to be swindled.

Sri Lanka has buddism first in the constitution. That itself is repressive. I follow modern Jewism, but there are other strands, such as Orthodox. With how Sri Lanka is what is protected in the constitution is considered perfect. No opportunity for evolution of thought or social development.

EU has been parroting these to the governments for yonks, to which SL turns a deaf ear. Without good governance based on fundamental principles of democracy there would be no improvement in SL. It is time EU stipulated a specific timeframe for improvement and have it directly linked to GSP status.

Also there were a few SS divisions composed of Dutch volunteers again highest of occupied countries and these SS Divisions fought bitterly to the end in Berlin against the valiant, conquering and heroic Red Army
