The elections commission including its chairman Nimal Punchihewa is conspiring to postpone the Local Government elections, National People's Power (NPP) MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today.
He told Parliament that the Local Government Bodies should be established before March 20, 2023 and that the nominations should be called by the end of December or beginning of January next year.
The MP said the Elections Commission had sought advice of the Attorney General and said the EC is not bound to seek advice of AG.
" The EC has required laws to announce Local Government elections at anytime. They should not seek advice of the AG," he said.
He said the EC is not an independent body and added that its Chairman had separate political ideologies.
The MP said the President should inform the House if the LG polls would be held on time just as he responds to all the other matters. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

Election is needed as this country is ruled by a man appointed by 134 crooks in the parliament. From the day 1 this government was appointed its duty was increasing the burden on the poor by increasing the prices of every essential item and also the rates of utility bills .

Yes, there are poor people like Jude while the politicians and their henchmen got all the privileges. Government do a lot of waste, including on demurrages. So, the election cost is not that significant. The opposition parties must file a case against the Election commission to conduct the elections.
