Former captain Dimuth Karunaratne was recalled to Sri Lanka's ODI squad for the three-match series against Afghanistan starting in Hambantota this Friday.

Also included is fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera, a welcome return for Sri Lanka’s best fast bowler who has not played international cricket since October last year when he picked up an injury during the early stages of Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup campaign.

Karunaratne captained Sri Lanka's ODI team until he was dropped following the tour of West Indies in 2021 and has not played international white-ball cricket since.

Karunaratne replaces batsman Nuwanidu Fernando, one of three chances Sri Lanka have made to the 17-member squad that travelled to New Zealand earlier this year.

Also missing out on a place is all-rounder Dunith Wellalage, replaced by uncapped leg spinner Dushan Hemantha.

They should have kept Dimuth as the captain instead of Dasun. When it comes to Odi Dasun, Wanindu and Theekshana are less effective. Anyway they should go with following as far as I think. Nissanka, Mendis, Dananjaya, Dimuth, Dasun, Asalanka, Sadeera, Wanindu or new leg spinner, Chamika, Chameera or Kasun, Matheesha

Will Matheesha Pathirana make his debut in the first game?

Why are they keeping Angelo Matthews? and is he not moving out, Cricket is just like the politicians, all for the money and nothing else.

Yes, Dasun is a good player no doubt, but has a very long way to go to be captain. Selfishness, undue influence, deprives the nation's progress in the game. After all Cricket is a team game, and a Gentlemen game.

Dimuth is a class test player causing immense damage to his, high class technique. Angelo is also a quality test player. With the side arm action of Pathirana, he does'nt get the desired bounce to trouble batsmen, along with his pace and at a pitch like WACA the good length balls would have been made, terrible.
