Filing a motion in Colombo Fort Magistrate's court today, the Defence Counsel submitted a new bail application on behalf of MP Wimal Weerawansa who was accused of misusing 40 government vehicles and thereby incurring a loss of Rs. 90 million to the State.

The Counsel put forward the bail application on the ground of exceptional circumstances that the suspect's daughter was admitted to hospital due to bad health condition.

Considering the bail request subsequently, Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne fixed April 3 to deliver a decision on the request. (Shehan Chamika Silva)

Please keep him in for a little longer. It will prepare him for the long long stay behind bars once the court case is over. It will be a real shock if that doesn't happen. Only way. Is to prove his innocence.

Child Protection Authority should step in and hold parents responsible. Twisting the arm of the judiciary is unacceptable. Could face further imprisonment. Counsel for the Defence should be cautioned.

SOME DRAMA Friday, 24 March 2017 02:57 PM

24 th March to 3rd APril is 10 days away. Wonder whether our Hero will last out till that time - unless eating and drinking on the sly. The girl of course (hoping for the best) will eat and drink - and there will be no need for the court to hear the application at all as she would have given up the fast (as reported in the news)

    DENTED Friday, 24 March 2017 03:11 PM

the law is already dented - don't make it break . Changing the law on bailable offences due to sickness of relatives cannot be allowed .

No use Friday, 24 March 2017 03:15 PM

all theifs are outside and still they need bail out even after stealing billions. If this yahapalanaya grant him bail then no use in law and order.

Good decision by Magistrate to see if these circumstances will be here in 10 days time. WW's daughter will be well by that time.

Judiciary should not create precedence on non bailable offences by considering bail on dramas of this nature by the accused and family members. This is hilarious. via DM Android App

Whatever. But take action that can be applicable to all not to just one individual. Before law all are equal. As it is written on the wall "Okkoma sirakaruwo manushayoya"
