After marking the highest number of daily COVID cases as high as 1,939 yesterday, Colombo District recorded the highest positive cases of 498, the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID Outbreak (NOCPCO) said.
They said Gampaha and Kalutara districts have recorded the second and third with 387 and 377 cases respectively.
The remaining 635 cases were reported from other districts.
83 cases were recorded from Matale and 78 from Polonnaruwa districts while Monaragala, Badulla and Mullaithivu districts recorded only one case each, the NOCPCO said.
Meanwhile, 18,922 positive cases were recorded so far after the New Year. 117,528 COVID cases reported by this morning until 6.00 a.m and 100,075 persons have recovered completely and left the hospitals. 16,719 infected people are still under treatment at intermediate treatment centres, they said.
14 COVID deaths were reported yesterday, making the total death toll to 734, the NOCPCO added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
