The Chinese built-Pakistani guided missile frigate (PNS) Taimur arrived at the port of Colombo on a formal visit this morning.
The visiting ship was welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in compliance with naval traditions.
The 134m-long ship is commanded by Captain M Yasir Tahir and it is manned by 169 as the ship’s complement.
In the meantime, the Commanding Officer of PNS Taimur is scheduled to call on Commander Western Naval Area at the Western Naval Command Headquarters today. The ship is expected to remain in the island until 15th August and the crew of the ship will take part in several programmes organized by the Sri Lanka Navy to promote cooperation and goodwill between two navies.
Further, PNS Taimur is expected to conduct a naval exercise with the Sri Lanka Navy on western seas on its departure on 15th August.
It was reported that the ship was denied permission to make a port call at Chattogram port by the Sheikh Hasina government from August 7-10 after making a port call at Lumut port in Malaysia.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

When ships like these are berthing in Colombo Harbour and in the past many US, UK, Indian Navy warships have berthed in Colombo and Trincomalee, why is there so much fear and paranoia regarding berthing of a warship from China at Hambantota Port?? I believe it is not only silly but quite inappropriate. MM

If this was an American made ship, would dailymirror.lk emphasise that fact?

Sri Lanka we should be proud as we are an epitome of neighbourly friendship amongst countries. All SAARC countries are our friends be it India,Pakistan,Bangladesh,Maldives, etc Unlike some fellow countries who have many differences amongst themselves

One day, not too far in the future when India begins its long awaited “Invasion of Sri Lanka”, the Americans, British, Australians, Japanese, European Union, and even Russians will all turn a blind eye to it. The only countries that would come to our rescue are China and Pakistan and no one else.

Pakistan is another adversary of India whom India has had military conflict with. Sri Lanka needs to keep relationships with countries which are not threatening to it. Hope India don't pull another oh, danger to our security BS like they did for the research vessel from China. This is outright a military vessel and another day India will do the BS for vessels from Pakistan coming here. Beware the India aid as there's obviously more sharp edge to us getting their high interest loan assistance at our time of need than just repaying the money.

Why waste money in hosting Pakistani ship ? Pakistan is so far away from us and can't be of any help as their economy is sinking. When Sheik Hasina doesn't want to take chance with India, why India's friend Ranil making India angry which could mean reduced Indian aid for common Sri Lankan ? Height of Stupidity

The anti Indian sentiment among some sections Sri Lankan population is major impediment to progress of our nation. These are mostly new rich Lankan singhalese which have superiority complex. They and the retired rear admirals of our country have been brought up on toxic anti Indian hate.
