Chairman of the Committee on Public Finance Dr. Harsha de Silva yesterday said the committee approval was granted to clauses under the Casino Business (Regulation) act with strict conditions.
One such condition which the committee had put forward is the establishment of a body to regulate casinos by September 2023.
“We will closely monitor the developments pertaining to the setting up of the body,” the MP said. It has been confirmed that neither USD 100 nor the revised USD 50 entry fee was collected by the treasury. “Unbelievable to hear that several online casinos operate openly without paying a cent of tax, with no way to monitor casinos either,” he added.
