The Cabinet approval was granted today to increase bus fares by 6.56 per cent with effect from tomorrow.
However, the minimum fare of Rs.10 would not be changed.
Earlier, the Lanka Private Bus Owners Association and the All Ceylon Private Bus Owners Association requested the government to increase bus fares by 10 percent and 20 percent respectively.

A reasonable rate increase should be acceptable but not with 6%. There are doing a business and not a service as everyone think. Business focus on Profits. It's not realistic to expect them to run at break even after looking atIncrease in fuel Interest rates on leasing Labour rates Cost of vehicle maintenance etc.So guys no free rides, if you want get in to CTB
