COVID-19: SL to get 600,000 vaccines from India on Jan 27: President

Sri Lanka will receive a consignment of 600,000 vials of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines from India on January 27 as the first step, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said today.

Yesterday, the Indian High Commission in Colombo confirmed that the Indian authorities are working with Sri Lanka for the early delivery of the vaccines.

An Indian High Commission spokesman said the Sri Lankan government had already conveyed that the emergency use approval for COVISHIELD vaccines has been granted.

I am a middle class Hindu Jaffna Tamil, I became a great supporter of Rajapaksas and voted for them in every election after they finished off the Tiger terrorists and created a free space for the cultured Tamils after 30 years of terror. But now I feel the Rajapaksas have betrayed Sri Lanka, just like the UNP, and the Indians are being enabled to take over the country gradually.

Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine has 2 doses to be 70 percent effective. Only 300,000 doses enough to cover 1.25 per cent of the total population.
