The passport of a British national who posted about the protests at Galle Face has been seized by the Immigration and Emigration officers yesterday.

The officials visited the house of British national, Kayleigh Fraser and seized her passport reportedly over violation of visa conditions.

Kayleigh Fraser had posted a video on social media showing immigration officers inspecting her passport.

Fraser said on her social media that she received a call from Sri Lankan immigration authorities demanding that she leave the country immediately.

During her interaction with immigration officers, she asks why they are taking her passport. The officers claim that they are questioning whether she has violated her visa.

The officials reportedly informed Fraser that an investigation will be conducted and the passport will be returned.

She was informed to appear at the Immigration and Emigration Department within 7 days to obtain her passport.

    Kapila Wednesday, 03 August 2022 03:22 PM

Serves you right for deciding to visit a quasi military state which can kill own citizens indiscriminately. Do you want us to protest so that they give you back your precious passport?

    Roshan Wednesday, 03 August 2022 03:28 PM

Viva Sri Lanka. Let's kill the tourist industry

    BuffaloaCitizen Wednesday, 03 August 2022 03:28 PM

    Mahesh Wednesday, 03 August 2022 03:33 PM

This is very absurd. It looks like previously Mahida threatened every cabinet ministers that he has a file for you if you don’t agree my terms. This is a coo kuu land laws as and when you apply for some other wrongdoings to keep someone’s mouth shut

    Batamulana Wednesday, 03 August 2022 03:35 PM

    Unimaginably stupid dictatorship.

Freddy Foxx Wednesday, 03 August 2022 03:35 PM

What better way to foster good relationship with foreigners.

    Don Wednesday, 03 August 2022 03:35 PM

Well done police kukkos. The way you behave very soon you will have to eat your own shit as all foreign countries would stop supporting Sri Lanka. You better turn your own gun and commit suicide.

    Thimothy Wednesday, 03 August 2022 03:42 PM

This is madness. At a time we are trying to recover cerratin individuals act ina blatant manner that brings disrepute to our country. If there was any violation foreighners should be warned of them and the respective embassy should be informed of it. Harrassing people is not the way to go. Especially at a time we require international help so badly.

    Nm Wednesday, 03 August 2022 03:56 PM

They will do anything to destabilise the country so they could dictate terms to us more easily.

    බුද්ධ ගයා Wednesday, 03 August 2022 04:10 PM

What's wrong, b'cos Ranil cordially invited foreginers to come and join protests against the govt. PM

Ismet Zaheed Wednesday, 03 August 2022 04:16 PM

No offence, the officer should go for an intensive course in the English Language!

    Saman Thursday, 04 August 2022 04:18 AM

What do you expect? The majority of SL government officials are uneducated.

    Mudalali Wednesday, 03 August 2022 04:18 PM

Great way to bring in much needed tourists and foreign currency. Only people with low IQs can't see what's coming for Sri Lanka. Wish you all luck with supporting Ranil, his boy kollas and the 225 donkey's.

    Chris Wednesday, 03 August 2022 04:18 PM

Looks like some people who commented are willing to put up with anything the old colonial masters cronies say. I've been to so many countries and seen how strict they are about visitors violating visa conditions. Thailand imprison many foreigners for saying anything bad about their monarch, so slaves please understand that their tourism is still booming

    Jesus Thursday, 04 August 2022 07:47 AM

Thailand tourism is booming over there..but we slaves don't want to sell our women to boom our tourism.. Mr so called Chris..

    Shehan Wednesday, 03 August 2022 04:30 PM

Who will you provide fuel and transport. UK please note where this undemocratic is headed. Immigration officials using public funs to harass foreigners.

    Euro Wednesday, 03 August 2022 04:50 PM

I'm writing from an euro country. The immigration officials have to be praised for their patience

Final mail in the coffin Wednesday, 03 August 2022 04:51 PM

Let’s see how can the pontiya go, who came through the back door, who does not also have peoples franchise and lost his seat and came through a handed out seat.

    mp Wednesday, 03 August 2022 05:00 PM

For the mere reason that they are British, should we Sri Lankans lick their back?

    Cheers Wednesday, 03 August 2022 05:04 PM

    Good move

    selvam Wednesday, 03 August 2022 05:12 PM

I saw the video the immigration officers conduct was exemplary. They were very polite, explained to her the circumstances, She is clearly in violation of her visa conditions. To all those who think this is dictatorship-what do you think British govt. do to you if you violate your visa conditions

    murthy Wednesday, 03 August 2022 05:13 PM

So all those guys who think this is wrong, do you want foreigners to violate the local laws for the sake of tourist dollars. Which tourist would like to visit SL if there is no law and order

    roobarbie Wednesday, 03 August 2022 05:22 PM

SLK is now a Police State run by a gestapo leader. Don't expect any standards of civilized world! Repression and oppression, fear and intimidation are the key policies of the Police State

    Sokrates Wednesday, 03 August 2022 05:28 PM

This will be a major diplomatic problem for Sri Lanka. The passport does not belong to this English woman, it was only given to her. The passport belongs to the United Kingdom.

    sss Wednesday, 03 August 2022 05:30 PM

First of all train these officers to talk in a professional manner

Pantha Kumaran Wednesday, 03 August 2022 05:31 PM

This is why people do not like come to Srilanka. Mr Bean is acting like a comedian

    Punchi Wednesday, 03 August 2022 06:16 PM

Hopefully the British Foreign Office will get the picture and discourage tourism to our blessed ? er poverty ridden lost paradise

    Hmmm Wednesday, 03 August 2022 06:33 PM

Democratic country or a communist dictatorship?

    vithura Wednesday, 03 August 2022 06:34 PM

Western tourists who are used to freedom of thought and expression will now skip SL altogether. Immigration officials should have paused for a moment before acting so rashly.

Dilshan Perera Wednesday, 03 August 2022 07:12 PM

Days are numbered for Batalanda Ranil Rajapakse! Nobody will miss him.. He was never a legitimate leader..

    Maha Wednesday, 03 August 2022 08:07 PM

This is another bunder Aeroflot case

Tissa Fernando Wednesday, 03 August 2022 10:30 PM

Why so much fuss about the British woman. If she has violated visa regulations then she should face the law. It is the same date in her country. Do this in the Middle East she will spend time in jail too. We do not get tourists from Britain anyway.

    Dee Wednesday, 03 August 2022 11:08 PM

Such act would not be done for the fun of it. Let's wait and see. She has access to legal help via the embassy. So it's not like you could put her behind bars cause someone doesn't like her face or something.

    Hadam Thursday, 04 August 2022 01:33 AM

Guy couldn’t Sri Lanka properly keep saying See Lanka. Jokers no idea what they getting into. Will have full force of the empire soon.

    Dissanayake Thursday, 04 August 2022 02:49 AM

No tourists have the right to get themselves involved in politics or any other activity beyond the limits of their respective visas. This law is a universal law. Every tourist should understand the law and should respect the law of the country, wherever he/she goes. She has clearly violated the law of Sri Lanka. She should face the consequences for her violations of the law.

    Rosie Thursday, 04 August 2022 03:35 AM

Goodbye tourists if these morons keep this up. Don't know how this person broke the law or how she violated her visa conditions. Posting a video of a protest has become a criminal offence so that the world will be blind to what goes on here. Why don't you seize the passports of foreign journalists who report on the situation in Lanka? European tourists are the biggest spenders in SL.

    Nandasena R Thursday, 04 August 2022 03:38 AM

Great behaviour for a country on its knees and trying to show bravado to tourists. This will be 'boon' to the much needed tourists dollars the country is eagerly awaiting. GOOD BYE TO TOURISTS AND THE TOURIST INDUSTRY.

    Saman Thursday, 04 August 2022 04:09 AM

This is the typical behavior of our SL official monkeys. No doubt being directed by RW goons.

Jacoob tit for tat Thursday, 04 August 2022 04:46 AM

Hmm .. we are a country that issues diplomatic passports to unauthorised citizens only later on to be arrested in UK airport and landed in jail. Tit for tat ...

    Siripala Thursday, 04 August 2022 06:53 AM

These guys should know how to speak English, if they to visit a British national. Shame on you immigration guys.

    Zahid Thursday, 04 August 2022 06:54 AM

Let the Supreme Court take notice and restore some dignity to the institution of legitimate parliamentary authority.

    gamarala Thursday, 04 August 2022 07:54 AM

This would go viral in all the travel magazines of the western world and would a lot of damage to tourism. All she did was post what was happening in Galle Face green. She broke no law, anyone in a free country can post his type of videos. I hope tourists boycott ,bankrupt, beggar country Sri Lanka. This was high handed nonsense by immigration officers.

Faqir Hussain Thursday, 04 August 2022 07:58 AM

I have already written to 3 travel magazines with the video, to avoid going to countries like Sri Lanka where human rights / freedoms are being violated

    Cherath Thursday, 04 August 2022 08:56 AM

It appears the young lady is visiting on medical grounds. It is while then that she has posted stuff on the internet. Contrary to my first suspicions, I think the Officers were polite and reasonable in impounding her passport temporarily. They were merely focused on the real reasons behind her visit. Fair enough, no strong arm tactics here.

    murthy Thursday, 04 August 2022 09:42 AM

to all SL's who think this is wrong, try going to UK on a tourist visa and once in London start sending messages on WP or Twitter against the Queen and see where you land

Rathnavali Perera Thursday, 04 August 2022 12:26 PM

The officers have a right to investigate if the tourist has violated her visa conditions. There is nothing wrong in that. We would face the same problems if we violate visa conditions in Britain. Does she think she can do anything she likes as a citizen of Sri Lanka and get away with it? We will carry out our protests. We do not need foreigners to help us to change governments. Thank you.

    emily Thursday, 04 August 2022 01:55 PM

Mr president if you are harassing people like this NO TOURIST will come to sri-lanka JAYAWEWA SRI-LANKA TOURISM

    emily Thursday, 04 August 2022 02:06 PM

Careful DO NOT get into the white van the white van will come within the week, before you go to collect the passport

    emily Thursday, 04 August 2022 02:18 PM

Immigration officer can not speak the english language . is there anybody in the immigration dept who can speak english

Darshi Girl Thursday, 04 August 2022 02:37 PM

Why would a Britisher live in SL for 2 years for medical purposes? Sounds dodgy. If this happens in a country like Singapore they will lock her up and throw away the keys. She is not broadcasting things on insta to help Sri Lankans that is such BS. She is doing it to get more views or followers or whatever that is to make money. Reverse roles, you think we will be able to go to a Western country on a medical visa and do this sort of activity. These officers are doing there job and doing it very professionally and politely. And for all those who has a problem with their level of English, get a life people.

    Jef Thursday, 04 August 2022 03:46 PM

Thick skin nation have no shame or pain for own forget a bout imports ..day thoughts

lanka peiris Thursday, 04 August 2022 07:21 PM

Thimothy, Have you seen how unwarranted illegals are treated in the UK. Well this instagramme should not have been allowed into the country! They do more harm than good. GROBR. What help has UK given SL other than problems with UNHRC with their double standards.

    Terrence Thursday, 04 August 2022 09:19 PM

If this foreigner wanted to tarnish the image of the country she could have gone to her own country and posted the video who could stop her our immigration should act rationally if we are to promote tourism

    Sirisena Monday, 08 August 2022 09:41 AM

Why get involved in unnecessary activities while on a tourist visa. If your sightseeing is done with its better to head home. If you get personally involved with the public you may fall into a mess. Why take chances

    Mack Monday, 08 August 2022 12:36 PM

If you check out her website, linked to her Instagram, it seems like she might be illegally working as a 'healer' in Sri Lanka and operating a business selling herbal and ayurveda remedies for an extended period. Sri Lankan tax authorities might also want to look into this.
