This should have been done in 2015 without joining hands with a group who supported MR at both elections that year!

    Dil Tuesday, 13 February 2018 03:16 PM

Also we should bring Hon Ravi Karunanayaka as finace minister, and promote him as the PM and unp leader

    Eds Tuesday, 13 February 2018 03:18 PM

Thank u for yr honesty. Even nalin bandara said after the meeting st temple trees today thst it is only because of this "yp kehelmala magula" that we cudnt form a government.....which means he nor you or anyone calling themselves the Good Governance wasn't serious about that concept or believed init. All they wanted to do was to grab power and throw mahinda out , with no plan, mission, vision in mind for the country.

    lal Tuesday, 13 February 2018 08:48 PM

If Ravi returns prepare to lose the next election as well

    Docuk Tuesday, 13 February 2018 02:24 PM

Good idea, plus have proper ministers and show it can be done! Not like the crooks of JO etc

Citizen Silva Tuesday, 13 February 2018 02:31 PM

RW never listens, will he ?

    Waco Wednesday, 14 February 2018 11:34 AM

    He is an empty man.

    yahapala Tuesday, 13 February 2018 02:31 PM

Ask your leader to resgine frst after 30 defeats so far to save one of Sri Lankas majour poloitical party.. If you have back bone you are not back benchers.

    sanath Tuesday, 13 February 2018 05:06 PM

Can you be specific to find out RW" 30 losing times in details..

    Dr.Siri Tuesday, 13 February 2018 02:37 PM

Will there be hope for the 2015 voter aspirations.

    Irfan Tuesday, 13 February 2018 02:39 PM

Before doing anything Ranil should give the leadership to someone who can really lead. If not nothing will change.

Said Mohamed Tuesday, 13 February 2018 02:42 PM

Well done Hon.PM, this is a very good opportunity to show the people that the UNP can provide what the people are expecting. Tag along the minor parties who want to give support to carry forward the development programs.

True Lankan Tuesday, 13 February 2018 02:50 PM

I don't have any faith in this man. If he was an able administrator he would have done his job in 3 years as the prime minister. He couldn't get RK sacked, even after knowing RK got benefits, bribes from the bond scammers. An old wine in a new bottle will taste the same!!

    sarath Tuesday, 13 February 2018 08:48 PM

RW couldn't do his job because the MR supporters who MS took into to the SLFP and then into cabinet kept derailing things. Time to ditch them and have a strong UNP govt . Then we can judge what they can achieve at least by 2020

    Imran Tuesday, 13 February 2018 02:53 PM

Please make sure proper ministers are appointed who can understand the pulse of the people. And in no way Ravi should be given responsibility he is an embarrassment to UNP.

    kasun Tuesday, 13 February 2018 02:53 PM

No need any other government catch thieves in this government and the past thats totally enough :D :D

KOLA KOTIYA Tuesday, 13 February 2018 02:55 PM

THIS WILL NOT INCREASE UNP VOTE BANK. UNP LEADERSHIP HAS TO CHANGE. WE CANT WIN GRASS ROOT LEVEL WE TOO ARE VERY STRONG UNPERS BUT TIME HAS COME TO CHANGE. PLS RESIGN LIKE A GENTELMEN MR RANIL

    buddi Tuesday, 13 February 2018 02:57 PM

This must be done, No need Change leadership of the Party. UNP should rely on policies not personalities. That is why UNP had an opportunity put common candidate with a support of all parties

    JR Tuesday, 13 February 2018 03:03 PM

do it reduce the cabinet and show it u have 2 years anything can happen our people need a very short time they will forget and vote for UNP . But do not forget colombo Vote does not win election feel the poor peoples requirments do not be talking Free wifi but more urgent needs .. show your Royal faded colours PM .

    L C A Pillai Tuesday, 13 February 2018 03:05 PM

After digging his own grave by not prosecuting Rajapakses now Ranil is trying to commit suicide with his party by going out of national government. via DM Android App

Kumara Dharmarathne Tuesday, 13 February 2018 03:06 PM

It's a wise idea, but only forming an independent government will not do. PM,you have to prove what you said during the last general election that previous government members were corrupt. So far you have failed to show the people that any of the previous government ministers have stole public wealth. Please also be very strict on your ministers,Deputies and so on to make sure that they do not play the fool with their duties and responsibilities. If not this will be the end of your political career. Good luck.

    Graham Tuesday, 13 February 2018 03:15 PM

Next round of BOND show to be continued....

    Man Tuesday, 13 February 2018 03:16 PM

All the MPs against Rajapakshas, must get together and form the government, irrespective of any particular party. That will be the best foundation for ousting Rajapakshas, for ever, at the next Presidential election.

    rew Tuesday, 13 February 2018 05:33 PM

Good suggestion, with one condition - RW must NOT be the PM.

    Niran Tuesday, 13 February 2018 03:16 PM

Yes, form a UNP Govt. but with a new educated younger leader. Ditch the globe trotting current leader or you can forget coming back at the next election.

    Jayatissa Tuesday, 13 February 2018 04:12 PM

Karu Jayasuriya for PM and Dr. Harsha de Silva for Deputy PM.

    Sunil Tuesday, 13 February 2018 03:24 PM

Why do not ask HE to resign, because he won only 10 LGs

    woter Tuesday, 13 February 2018 03:46 PM

    Better than school voters again

    Dggy Tuesday, 13 February 2018 04:07 PM

    Incorporate with Singapore.

    Richard Tuesday, 13 February 2018 04:08 PM

In my personal view , the UNP should get the corporation from other minority parties. Even if they can invite respectable and honest SLFP stalwarts to join hands with them is no problem. Sack respectfully even coruptted UNP ministers. Get the maximum support from JVP. Give them with responsibility to bring up the village since they have that ability none other than. As far as I am concerned they will not loot public funds. Form a Government as soon as possible and try to solve the burning issues before the next elections. If you all manage to deliver goods you will perhaps have very good chance of winning the General Elections.

    Ceylon Tuesday, 13 February 2018 05:35 PM

Remove ranil.he is not unp.he destroyed unp.save the great party from anty unp destroyers.he made unp lost 30 times.this time dont allow.

    Sara Tuesday, 13 February 2018 05:38 PM

Backbenchers urge PM to form UNP Govt ????? wrong caption. Should read as follows:-Backbenchers urge PM to take a Backbench !!!!!!!

Nalla Thambi Tuesday, 13 February 2018 05:48 PM

What a bunch of warp minded individuals; apparently they reject the verdict of the people. It is a feeble attempt to save the sinking ship (perhaps for short time).

    Rondy Tuesday, 13 February 2018 06:05 PM

Ranil has a vision to take the country forward. After General election he had no choice but to join hands with UPFA to form a government. Good luck for the next 2 ½ years..

    K shantha Tuesday, 13 February 2018 06:31 PM

How can they form a UNP government alone. PRESIDENT Will hold the strings as he is the head of the government. It will be same story continuing. My3 will read yesterday newspapers and revise government decision.

    yahapala Tuesday, 13 February 2018 07:54 PM

Why Mr. Sarath Foseka and Chandrika K. soooo quite now?

    Waco Wednesday, 14 February 2018 03:01 PM

    Pl: leave them alone.

    ajith Tuesday, 13 February 2018 08:27 PM

MR will never want Ranil to leave. He's easily beatable in an election.

    KK.PERERA Tuesday, 13 February 2018 08:46 PM

Do'not compare Presidential election votes with local govt. election. Compare parliament election results with local govt' results.

    gamini Wednesday, 14 February 2018 12:43 PM

I am waiting to hear what SF has to say
