Ven. Ajahn Brahmawanso Thera, who arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), to leave for Bangkok had been kept waiting at the airport for 12 hours as Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardane was also set to leave for Thailand on the same flight.

It was reported that the Thera had arrived at the BIA at around 10 pm on Tuesday (30) to take a Singapore Airlines flight to Bangkok, Thailand and was seated at the VIP lounge to board the flight.

In the meantime, Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardane and a group of Ministers had also arrived at the VIP Lounge to leave for Thailand.

After some time, the Prime Minister and the delegation had been taken on a special bus to board the flight. However, at around 2.30 am, Ven. Brahmawanso Thera, who was at the VIP Lounge, had been informed that his journey has been cancelled.

However, later, the Thera had been sent on board a SriLankan flight which left for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at 10.45 the following day. (T.K.G. Kapila)

These politicians must be forced to resign when they come back to the country. These are the guys who talk about insulting Buddhism, what is more, insulting than insulting a living Buddhist Preacher? Where are the Buddhist Monks who act like thugs on the road against this?

This shows SL has not still learnt to treat people equally, especially people in power. If this happens to a Clergy then imagine what an ordinary person would have endured. PM, Were you aware the clergy was waiting?

Why are our Ministers/Prime Minister flying on Singapore Airlines?

    Ram Thursday, 01 June 2023 06:59 PM

PM Dinesh, Don't show ignorance about what happened. You are answerable. Why not tender an open apology to the Priest and give instructions that it must not happen again. Politicians are servants of the people and must leave from the other end with the people. VIP lounge must be for foreign dignitaries.

PM and MPs disrespecting renowned Thera Thursday, 01 June 2023 07:05 PM

Thoroughly appalling that Singapore Airlines allow for PM and MPs to unseat the Thera. Also obviously no one likes Sri Lankan airlines, all want to go on Singapore airlines unless there is no other option.

Shoddy service by BIA and Sri Lankan Airlines. And, no, Singapore Airlines doesn't fly to Bangkok. And according to your sister paper, it was Sri Lankan—shoddy journalism from Daily Mirror.
