Asalanka helps Sri Lanka to 268 in first ODI against Afghanistan

Charith Asalanka narrowly missed out on a second career ODI century with Sri Lanka bowled out for 268 in the first ODI against Afghanistan in Hambantota a short while ago.
Asalanka was run out in the final over of the innings, having scored 91 off 95 deliveries, helping Sri Lanka recover from 84 for 4 to post a competitive total.
A 99-run fifth wicket partnership between Asalanka and Dhananjaya de Silva, who scored 51 off 59, laid the groundwork for Sri Lanka's recovery having lost their top four for 84 in the 20th over.
De Silva was dismissed attempting a loose sweep shot in the 38th over, but Asalanka kept steady with partnerships of 32 and 48 with Dasun Shanaka and debutant Dushan Hemantha respectively, as Sri Lanka headed into the final over on 264 for 7.
Three wickets in the 50th over however stymied Sri Lanka's push to a score closer to 280, with the run outs of Asalanka and Matheesha Pathirana sandwiching the wicket of Kasun Rajitha.

Today only Asalanka played well along with Dananjaya and all the others played worse than schoolboys "B" team. Dam disgrace. credit should reach Afghan's bowlers and fielders.

Poor Team selection by Politically influenced selectors, this is Sri Lanka no one can change it. Captain should be put out first.

Why they changing the Nisaanka and Pathum as opening pair. They did make over 100 partnership in previous encounter with Afg. Also it is an utter waste of selecting Mathews for odi or t20. Dimuth deseeve few more chances. Also question arise about the role of Dasun here. Not able to bat as a reliable batter. If he does not ball then it a waste of a slot in odi lineup.

Angelo Mathews is too old. Too often he is said as a savior but he is taking spot of real talent. SLC should just stop keeping no good old players anymore. Kusal Mendis came to the team because SLC was pressured by Sri Lanka government to overturn bans on him and the other two for the indiscretions in the UK. Cricket is a dead end for Sri Lanka.

Poor team selection, and pathtic captaincy, and same old jokers on the job,this politics in the game is destroying SriLanka Cricket, high time please step down and allow Gentlemen of Cricket, with cricketing interest to come forward and lead SLC.
